Keep the Change
It's 2011 and the world is in a state on constant motion. Everybody is in such a hurry to get nowhere, and everything familiar is getting more and more vague everyday. The one constant in our lives: change. I can't tell you how much things have changed in my life in the past ten years, and in the most recent year , 2010, passing. Fuck my life, every morning I wake up and it's like I just got out of the joint after doing ten years. Nothing is the same. I don't even recognize my own homes half of the time! I punch the wrong people often, but that's nothing new. The systems and rules in my life that I finally figured out, have changed completely, and I feel like every aspect of my life is in constant flux. The color of my hair , the world around me, the way I feel, and the music I listen to, are completely subject to the randomization of time and events, unfortunately. Sometimes this change on your grid, is merciful, and you get what you want…. And sometimes the motherboard aint as sweet as tupelo honey and you wake up one day and your best friends are gone and you're no longer on the up and up. Is it random? Do we have time to analyze, anyway? Who the fuck knows, man? I don't have time to care. I just know that every so often in my life and everyone else's, something happens that redefines the way you think, exist, or carry on from that point. Change. I've spent so much of my life trying to look for solid things and solid answers that I've wasted a lot of time and energy. At this point, I accept the fact that the one constant in MY life is change, and Im gonna try to embrace that. Scenery, people and the things I enjoy are constantly changing in my world. The music I play is always changing, and that worries me that I'm going to lose some folks in the translation, but in the end I will be dj'ing butt ass naked in my bedroom alone long after I will still be playing out, and that's what it's all about in the end; the things I enjoy in my life. This mix is kind of a little bit of everything at once.... It twists and turns constantly just like the indian burn that I call my life. I usually try to use my first take, but we puffed tough and forgot to hit the record button on the first go, so we had to give it another whirl lol ;) This mix is the first that I've recorded outside of my comfortable little bubble in the delta, recorded in the lovely bay area, and is the tenth full length mix I have put out! It's been a hell of a ride over the years! Shit is so different now, and Im just grateful that I have had such good people stay constant in my life over time. The future is so different than the past but I can cope with it all as long as I got some familiar faces onboard my spaceship. :) I hope you listen to this, go out soon, and drink a drink you never drank and get a little more loose than you've ever been..... Eat some food you might never have eaten and taste something new. Make out with a person you might never have given a chance to (probably for good reason, but that's why we're equipped with regret!) , and listen to a beat you never heard before and think to yourself "HOT DAMN PLAYA WHY AINT I BEEN UP ON THISSS?". "Even the sun goes down, heroes eventually die", as Andre3000 said. Empires crumble, kings lose their crowns, and if you're going through it; this too shall pass.
