From Heaven to Hurt
in the late 90's and early 2000's, I was a mislead punk rocker with no real goals or ambitions. I started getting into electronic music, mostly house music, because I liked the carefree nature of it, without having to listen to vocals that preached politics and anger. I just fell in love with the thought of not having to search for meaning, when the meaning is just to be free. I used to go to raves and just lose myself and one day I heard a person spinning miami breakbeat styled music, and I was totally blown away. Growing up, I always loved the sound of breakbeat and electro, ala grandmaster flash and alot of miami-bass typed booty shaking music I'd listened to as a young kid. I was completely enthralled that you could play music like that at a rave and get away with it, and I fell head over heels with stateside breakbeat music. Listening to this mix that I made from tracks Id acquired as a teenager and beyond, I flash right back to that era where I was just a lost teenager, and I smile and think back on all the wonderful imagination that music like this inspired me to have. I miss this style of music, and if I could find it, I would keep spreading the gospel of Miami influenced trancey electro. It's passionate, futuristic-yet retro, and always takes me right back to a much simpler time in my life when all I wanted to do was put on a red thriller jacket and kool moe dee shades and poplock right off into the laser eteched sunset in the year 19XX with my jerry curl twinkling like a disco ball. Those were the days. I miss this style of music, and I miss those times. Cheers.
